New Ocean Front Park in Ormond By The Sea, Florida

Work has begun on a beachside park in Ormond By The Sea, Florida at Roberta Road on the east side of A1A. The site was the location of the Happy Whale Condominium and the Happy Whale Restaurant. Those buildings had not been well maintained for many years and were demolished in 2001 due to an accumulation of code violations.

Part of the same project includes approximately 1 acre on the west side of A1A at Carol Road that will provide additional parking for the park. Completion of the park, which has not yet been named, is expected this summer and possible as early as May 2010. Amenities anticipated at the park will be beach access, restrooms and showers. There will be no playground or picnic pavilions so if you are looking for those things you will need to go down the road a few hundred yards to Tom Renick Park.
